Its complexity signals the complexity of human being.<\/p>\n  <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Language is closely linked with thinking, identity and our ideas of ourselves and of the world. If we want to change language, we must alter the way we speak, meaning, we must alter ourselves. For this reason, language innovations often give rise to resistance and social debates. However, many changes are also taking place which we scarcely perceive because they comply with our use of language. They come about by themselves, as it were.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"use-discriminatory\">\u00abUse: discriminatory\u00bb<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The German Duden Dictionary adds this reference to words whose use is discriminatory and derogatry. Well-known English examples are <s>nigger<\/s> or <s>gypsy<\/s>. The German terms for asylum seeker and invalid (Asylant and Behinderter) are marked as derogatory. If we want to speak respectfully, we use other terms and a politically-correct language. This means that we speak about others the same way that we would like them to speak about us. Language usually provides numerous alternatives for the above-mentioned terms, and many of these have long since become established, for example, people of colour or Black people, Roma and Sinti. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"majority-minority\">Majority \u2013 Minority<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost people are, most people know&#8230;\u201d. These turns of phrase, often used with no ill intent, include, and above all, exclude all those who are not, or do not know. Many everyday uses of language have a discriminating impact without us always being aware of it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group alignfull is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-text-align-center has-white-color has-text-color has-background is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\" style=\"background-color:#ce94f7\">\n<p>\u201cEquitable language alone is not enough to bring about a just world. By using it, however, we show that we actually want an equitable world.\u201d<\/p>\n<cite>Anatol Stefanowitsch, <em>Eine Frage der Moral: Warum wir politisch korrekte Sprache brauchen<\/em>, 2018<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"inclusive-languagerefers-to-everyone\">Inclusive Language:<br>Refers to everyone<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In former times, language indicated if a woman was married or not: in English through the use of Mrs. and Miss, in French Madame and Mademoiselle, in Italian Signora and Signorina and in German Frau and Fr\u00e4ulein. What is striking is that most languages use a diminutive form of the word for a married woman when addressing an unmarried woman. For this reason, and above all because the form of address should not always communicate a person\u2019s married status, these terms for unmarried women are gradually disappearing from use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In English, the generic masculine, i.e., the male form, is used for all genders. In other languages, for example French or German, male and female forms are now linked by special characters: conservateur ice, or K\u00fcnstler*innen or K\u00fcnstler:innen. These combined forms are regarded as a gender-conscious use of language. Their aim is to ensure that language reflects all genders. In Englisch gender-consious language means for example humankind instead of mankind, people instead of man\/men or firefighter instead of firemen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div style=\"padding:56.25% 0 0 0;position:relative;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/842896280?h=b49c897ecd&#038;autoplay=1&#038;loop=1&#038;title=0&#038;byline=0&#038;portrait=0\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><script src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/api\/player.js\"><\/script>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"rrespect-annoyance-or-sexism\">RRespect, Annoyance or Sexism?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>The non-binary way of writing using an asterisk or colon includes all genders, meaning, it is inclusive. Currently, the sense and nonsense of gender inclusive language is being debated highly controversially. While the inclusive modes are used more and more widely, political efforts are being made to prohibit this use in the administration and in schools.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Surveys repeatedly show that a majority of Swiss people do not use gender inclusive language. However, tests show that when both genders are named or non-binary modes of writing used, people actually think more of female persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the criticism from the political right wing, who see traditional values threatened, some feminists also criticise the use of gender inclusive language as sexist because it always points to a person\u2019s gender.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-history-of-a-change-in-meaning-woke\">The History of a Change in Meaning: Woke<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The term \u201cwoke\u201d is almost 100 years old, given that it was coined in the 1930s. It means a politically alert, or awake, spirit opposed to discrimination. Within a very short space of time, however, this positive term has become a negative one, even in German speaking regions. The term usually refers to the discrimination of older people, but it can also refer to younger people.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12471\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"african-diaspora\">African Diaspora<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12471\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The totality of people of African origin living outside the African conti\u00adnent, e.g. the Afro-American, Afro-Caribbean, Afro-German population, as well as migrants of African origin and their descendants.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12472\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"ageism\">Ageism<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12472\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Social and economic discrimination against people because of their age, for example in their participation in society or in working life. The term usually refers to discrimination against older people, but it can also refer to younger people.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12473\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"ally\">Ally<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12473\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>An individual who actively supports the social movements and rights of LGBTQIA+ and other marginalised identities, but who does not identify as LGBTQIA+ or as a member of said marginalised groups.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12474\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"apartheid\">Apartheid<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12474\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>A former oppressive system that was officially implemented in South Africa from 1948 until 1994, to enforce racial segregation and political, economic and social discrimination against people of colour or anyone who was not classified as white. The word \u2018apartheid\u2019 is an Afrikaans word meaning \u2018apartness\u2019. The term has also been used to refer to global forms of institutionalised racial and socio-economic oppression that is still prevalent in societies across the worl<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12475\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"asexual\">Asexual<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12475\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>An umbrella term used to describe a sexual orientation that displays a lack of sexual attraction to others, or low or absent interest in or desire for sexual activity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12476\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"assignment\">Assignment<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12476\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Within the dominant culture informed by Western scientific models that classify gender and sex as binary, gender and sex are commonly assigned at birth based on external biological sex characteristics (genitalia) and reproductive functions. A vulva-bearing child is typically assigned female at birth (commonly shortened to AFAB), while a penis-bearing child is typically assigned male at birth (commonly shortened to AMAB). AFAB and AMAB are terms commonly used by transgender, gender-non-conforming and non-binary people to demonstrate that the sex and\/or gender one was assigned at birth may not necessarily match one\u2019s true gender identity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12477\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"bisexual\">Bisexual<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12477\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>An umbrella term used to describe a romantic or sexual orientation to\u00adwards more than one gender. Bisexual people may describe themselves using one or more of a variety of terms, including (but not limited to) pansexual and queer.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12478\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"black\">Black<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12478\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Capitalised when used to describe someone\u2019s race, ethnicity or culture, unless the individual or group self-identifies otherwise.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-12479\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"black-lesbian-feminism\">Black Lesbian Feminism<\/h3><div id=\"ac-12479\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>A political identity, movement and school of thought that incorporates perspectives, experiences and politics around race, gender, class and sexual orientation, and surfaces the inextricable links between them.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124710\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"butch\">Butch<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124710\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>A term used in queer culture to describe someone who often (but not al\u00adways) expresses themselves in a typically masculine way. This term should not be used to describe someone unless they expressly identify as such.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124711\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"cis-cisgender\">Cis \/ Cisgender<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124711\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>A term used to describe someone whose gender identity matches the sex and gender they were assigned at birth.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124712\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"civil-union\">Civil Union<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124712\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The \u201cCivil Union\u201d act in South Africa grants legal recognition to same sex couples. In Switzerland, the \u00abregistered partnership\u00bb was replaced by marriage for all on 01.07.2022.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124713\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"classism\">Classism<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124713\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>The term describes discrimination against people on the basis of their actual or assumed financial resources, education or origin. Classism is based on the idea that a person&#8217;s social or economic status defines their value in society. In doing so, people who are considered to have a lower status are often given less access and rights within society.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124776\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"corrective-rape\">Corrective Rape<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124776\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>A term used to describe a hate crime in which a person is raped because of their perceived sexual orientation or gender identity. The intended consequence of such acts is to enforce heterosexuality and gender conformity.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124714\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"cross-dressing\">Cross Dressing<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124714\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Cross dressing is the performative act of wearing clothes traditionally or stereotypically associated with a different gender.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-pb-accordion-item c-accordion__item js-accordion-item no-js\" data-initially-open=\"false\" data-click-to-close=\"true\" data-auto-close=\"true\" data-scroll=\"false\" data-scroll-offset=\"0\"><h3 id=\"at-124715\" class=\"c-accordion__title js-accordion-controller\" role=\"button\" id=\"deaf\">Deaf<\/h3><div id=\"ac-124715\" class=\"c-accordion__content\">\n<p>Deaf is a positive designation used by people with hearing impairments, irrespective of whether they are very deaf, have a mild hearing loss or are hard of hearing.
